The Beatles
at 78 RPM
Issued on 7 February 1964, this 78 of Twist and Shout and I Saw Her Standing There, released on the Odeon "Pops" label of EMI in Argentina, is one of the most unique collectables in the world. EMI specifically released it to capitalise on the growing worldwide popularity of the Beatles. It was not only issued at a special low price but also with a picture sleeve, the only Beatles 78 anywhere in the world to be issued with a picture sleeve. By 13 March 1964 the 78 had completely sold out and was replaced by a normal single spinning at 33 1/3 rpm (a South American standard). This release was preceeded by standard (non 78) singles of From Me to You and Please Please Me in late 1963.
In 2002, a copy sold on auction for US$999. That copy did not come with the picture sleeve. One can only assume that copies with the sleeve would fetch a premium.

These 4 gentlemen are authors of the book A, B, C, D, Paul, John, George & Ringo!. This book details the history of Beatles releases in Argentina, and is a fascinating reference item.
